Learn to Accept Yourself

Do you know the serentity prayer?
God grant me the serentity to accept the things I cannot change
Courage tp change the things I can and
Wisdom to know the difference.

What does that have to do with self-acceptance? Read on to find out.

COACHING

Many have issues with self esteem, self worth and accepting faults. One source claims 85% of people have such issues! This has serious implications for financial sucess, job and relationship satisfaction, general happiness and sense of fluorishing. Those with higher self accptance tend to enjoy greater mental and physical health as well. This is pretty important!
If you find yourself with an issue in this area, here are a few things to consider:

  • Look at your accomplishments and celebrate them! Look objectively, without that critical self. Looking at our own as if someone else's accomplishments can help.

  • Forgive yourself.  You aren't able to change what has already happened. Look to the serentity prayer. Know the difference.

  • Understand that acceptance is not the same as resignation. What are the things you can change? What's in your control?

  • Begin to recognize your inner critic. Consider what you tell yourself. Again, look objectively. Is it true? Check in with a trusted friend, counsellor or coach; do they think it's true?

  • Be kind to yourself. Typically we all do our best in situations. We don't need to punish ourselves, we need to be kind to ourselves. That sets you on a path toward self-compassion which leads to better self-esteem.

With greater acceptance of self, we become happier, more compassionate and more productive members of society and more engaged in relationships. It not only helps you, but others around you.

Chick Pea & Veggie Slides

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup quinoa

  • 1 15 oz can chickpeas beans, rinsed and drained

  • 2 carrots, grated

  • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced

  • 1 scallion, minced

  • 2 teaspoons lemon zest

  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

  • 1 tablespoon ground flax meal

  • 3 tablespoons water

  • Sea salt & pepper to taste

  • 1-2 tablespoon coconut oil

  • 4 cups baby kale

  • Juice of 1 lemon

  • 1 avocado, chopped

Directions

  1. Bring 1 cup of water to boil in small saucepan. Add quinoa, reduce heat, cover and simmer 13 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand 5 minutes. Drain any excess liquid and turn onto baking sheet to cool.

  2. In a food processor, pulse beans until coarsely chopped. Place in a bowl with the cooled quinoa. Add carrot, jalapeno, scallion, zest and juice, mixing well.

  3. In a small bowl, whisk ground flax meal with water let sit 2 minutes. Add flax to bean mixture and stir to combine.

  4. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

  5. Heat oil in skillet over medium high heat. Add 1/4 cup of mixture to skillet and flatten with spatula. Repeat with remaining mixture, cooking in batches, and adding more oil, if necessary. (Don't overcrowd your skillet with sliders or they will steam and not brown.) Cook 3-4 minutes per side until browned and cooked through.

  6. Meanwhile toss baby kale with lemon juice and divide among 4 plates. Place sliders on top of greens and top with chopped avocado.
