Lojong Slogan 42 ~ Whichever of the two occurs, be patient

This is part 42 of my series on Lojong ~ A Buddhist mind training technique.practice no matter what This slogan addresses the tendency we have to become more and less involved in our practice depending on what's going on in our lives. We can find numerous ways to distract ourselves from practicing mind training to develop more compassion and loving-kindness. When we're having our own struggles it's easy to get caught up in 'why me' as opposed to practicing our compassion for others. When we're feeling great and everything is coming up roses, we may feel like we don't need to practice or just let it go to the wayside as we get caught up in the good vibes. The idea behind this slogan is to maintain a steady practice regardless of what's coming up in your personal experience. All conditions are the right conditions to practice mind training!Acharya Judy Lief suggests asking yourself what would be threatened if your practice was more steady and consistent. You might surprise yourself if you meditate on this question.
