Lojong Slogan 29 ~ Abandon Poisonous Food

This is part 29 of my series on Lojong, a Buddhist mind training practice. Image from: http://www.freeimages.com/photo/542439The practice of loving kindness can become a poison if we let our egos get in on the act. Ego-fixation is seen as a poison in lojong. As humans, we tend to habitually solidify our idea of self, of being separate from others, and even of being better than others. For those more spiritually minded, this can become shrouded in the idea of being more loving, compassionate or less judgmental than others. This turns a pure practice into poison, further separating us from those we do not deem "as spiritual" as we are. I've seen this in myself at times when I'm unable to talk to someone who doesn't "get it". When we truly meet people where they are, though, we notice that we all learn from one another regardless of where you are on your spiritual journey.Allow yourself, without judgment, to take note of the times that you put those around you into groups that are separate from you. Allow your soul to engage them instead. On a soul level we all speak the same language.
