Lojong Slogan 2: Regard all Dharmas as Dreams

Slogan 1 referred to the idea of going back to the start- why you wanted to begin on a path of spirituality and to stop sleepwalking through life. Slogan 2 therefore may seem a bit contradictory. However, the idea behind this slogan is to look at everything around us through the lens of true reality. What we see in our physical world is maya- the great illusion of life- it is more akin to a dream. When we begin to realize that everything that is happening, everything that we see, touch, smell, hear and taste is illusory and ever changing we can begin to see how we can always shift our perceptions. If we can shift our perception and ‘change our minds’ about our experiences, how can they be real in the sense of being fixed or solid.This slogan asks us not to take ourselves, or the world around us, quite so seriously. It asks us to recognize the ever shifting perspective and know that the only thing that is truly ‘real’ is that which is observing this life we are living. Begin to notice at what point you decide something is real and you begin to hold onto the experience. Can you recognize it for what it is and let it go?
