Lojong Slogan 6: In postmeditation, be a child of illusion

Spiritual writer Brian Beresford, compares this slogan to being a conjurer. When the conjurer turns a rock into a bird, Beresford says, he and the audience see a bird, but he is aware that the bird has appeared by his own ability; he is not deceived by his own creation.Meditation here refers to the formal practice  of sitting in quiet, perhaps transcending the world as we know it. And so, we divide our time into parts: meditation and post-meditation. The practice of spirituality asks that we not only practice formally, but in every moment of life. This is not to say that we must be very serious and earnest in every moment, nothing as heavy as that. Neither does it mean that every moment needs to be taken as a very important one. Rather we simply remember that none of what we are experiencing is real or solid, as we learned in previous slogans; and yet at the same time take it lightly- be a child of illusion- play with it. Acharya Judy Lief puts it this way:  "It is to play within an environment that we recognize to be shifty and illusory". When you begin to feel the world becoming solid around you, as we all do, remember to recognize the illusory nature, the maya, of being in this world.
